Long Windsor loop via Filipettos, Dorney Lake, Windsor, Richmond Park [160km / 1,030m elevation]
This longer relatively flat ride could be a good training ride for the Ride London. We head north out of the park on familiar roads and connect with the reversed Great Escape route. Enjoy the steep climb at 62km in just before a break at Little Chalfont. We recommend Filipettos or the Rex Artisan Bakery. Then onto Dorney Lake on the country roads passing Beaconsfield (75km), across to Cliveden House (nice café at 83km) and onto the rowing lake at Dorney Lake with coffee van (93km). As a private ground, you might need to detour during events or the summer season when it’s closed.
It’s then a short run into Eton and across to Windsor (98km) heading through Windsor Great Park. Most of the climbing is behind you now, so get ready for the flat ‘time trial’ run into Kingston upon Thames, Richmond Park and the Roehampton gate café (140km) and back into town along the Embankment. As you head back to the fields, Smiths of Smithfields (157km) has outside tables for late sunny afternoon beer.
