How do I know if I want to join Islington Cycling Club?

We welcome new riders to join us as a guest for up to three rides. After that, you’ll have to become a member to continue riding with us.

Can I ride with you as a guest to see if I want to join?

Yes! You can come along as a guest to our regular Sunday club rides (or one of our introductory rides - see below). We meet at the Holloway Road entrance to Whittington Park, N19 4RS, for an 8.30am depart. We welcome new riders to join us as a guest for up to three rides of these rides. After that, you’ll have to become a member to continue riding with us.

How do I become a member?

If you've come out with us as a guest and want to join up, you must complete an introductory ride or group riding skills session prior to having your membership application accepted. We recommend booking onto one of these rides as soon as possible to reduce the time taken to join the club. To book a place on our introductory rides or group riding skills sessions go to the clipping in section of our forum: forum.islington.cc/microcosms/113/ Then you'll need to apply and pay here: islington.cc/#membership

Is Islington a good club for women?

Islington Cycling Club is proud to be home to a diverse and active female membership base. We aim to provide an inclusive and encouraging environment for riders of all levels, from people who are looking to join a club for the first time to more experienced riders and racers looking for their next challenge. The events, activities, benefits on offer to female Islington members include: women-only club socials, every six weeks, participation in the Rapha Ladies’ 100 ride, twice yearly weekends away, ladies-specific Milltag kit, a women-only section on our club forum, an increasingly successful women’s time trial team and a growing women’s race team, women’s British Cycling RideLondon 100 team. This year, on 10 June, we’re running our first ladies' open ride, encouraging those who are looking to join a club for the first time to come along, ride with us and get a taster of what Islington CC has to offer. Do I need to wear a helmet?

Yes. Helmets are required on all club rides.

How far and how fast do you ride?

All our Sunday club rides divide into groups that do different distances and speeds. There are A groups (17-18mph*), B groups (14-16mph*) and C groups (12-13mph*). We aim to never leave anyone behind and keeping together and helping each other is what our club is all about! On Saturdays there is also a club ride at 8.30am and our Regent’s Park rides (7am, fast and 8am, not as fast). Check our forum for up to date details of each ride. *These are average speeds and may vary with conditions and terrain.

What should I bring with me?

Stuff to fix your bike - a pump, puncture repair kit, spare inner tubes and tools. Plus snacks and water to keep you going. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and have a set of lights for early morning/evening rides.
